Three Times When Self-Storage Might Work Out Well For You

Posted on

Self-storage units can be used for so many purposes. There are small outside units without climate control, large indoor units with climate control, RV storage units, and just about everything in between. You may be able to simplify your life by renting a storage unit. Here are three signs that you may want to rent your first self-storage unit:

1: You're running out of storage room around your home

If you're having a hard time finding places to store things around your home, then keep self-storage in mind. If you decide to move some of your things into a storage unit, there are a few tips you can use.

You may want to move the items you'll need to access the least into the unit. Also, you should take the time to prepare the storage unit with shelves that help you keep everything well organized. Another thing to keep in mind is you can pack your things in clear plastic storage bins. The bins allow you to easily see what's inside each one, and they have tightly fitting lids that help protect your belongings.

2: You have some items outside

If you keep some things outside, then they will be exposed to the sun, wind, rain, snow, etc. The elements can be damaging to most items. Even metal can get damaged because it can end up with rust and corrosion. Plastic or rubber items can wind up getting brittle and cracking due to exposure to the sun and extreme temperatures.

By moving the things you keep outside into a storage unit, you can keep them in better condition longer. Another way you can go is to move some things you currently keep in the garage or storage shed into the self-storage unit, then you have the space to move the items that are outside into those spaces. This may be the best way to go if you use the things you have outside regularly and want to keep them on the property.

3: You are going to be remodeling part of your home

If you are going to be doing some work around the house soon, then you'll want to remove your furniture and belongings from the areas that are going to be worked on. Otherwise, they will get in the way of the workers, and they can even get dirty and damaged.

During the remodeling process, tools and equipment will be brought in and moved around. This can cause scratches, tears, and other damage to your things. Also, there may be things going on that puts a lot of dust into the air. The dust can get in fabrics and cushions. Plus, when a lot of dust gets on surfaces, it can lead to them being scratched. By moving everything in that part of the house into a self-storage unit, they will be safe and out of the way until the project has been completed.
