How To Make The Most Of The Room In Your Storage Unit

Posted on

Are you renting a storage unit but are a bit worried that you are going to run out of room? If so, it helps to follow these tips to ensure that you are making the most out of the room that you have.

Purge Items Before Going Into Storage

It is always a good idea to take a close look at everything that you will be putting into self-storage. While it is normal to want to box things up and move them to the storage unit where you can think of them again another day, it is going to be difficult to start purging things after the unit has filled up. That is why it is worth thinking carefully about everything that you put in a storage unit and purging belongings that you know you will not need anymore.

Utilize Your Drawers

Are you storing anything in the storage unit that has drawers, such as a dresser, refrigerator, or nightstand? These items have space inside them that can be used for additional storage. Definitely consider finding things that can be stuffed inside the larger items taking up a lot of room, since you'll end up getting some space back that would otherwise be lost.

Use Moving Boxes

If you need to get boxes to store things in self-storage, it is worth getting boxes from a moving company to get this job done. That is because these boxes are designed to stack well together when they are put in the back of a moving truck to consume as little space as possible. When you use random boxes, usually in an attempt to save money, you end up with mismatched boxes that are not going to fit well with each other. This will end up causing you to waste space because the boxes will not stack together as tightly as if they were all a unified size.

Break Down Furniture When Possible

If you have a large piece of furniture that is going in the storage unit, you'll want to see if there are ways to break down the furniture so that it consumes less room. For example, if you have a dining room table that you are storing, you can likely remove the legs from the table and store it sideways, which will give you more square footage for storing things. The same can apply to anything that has removable legs, like chairs.
